Public vs Private Company Information

Private Company:
  • is a company that is privately held. This means that the company is owned by the company's founders, management or a group of private investors.
  • Not required to disclose financial information to anyone since they do not trade stock on a stock exchange.
Public Company:
  • is a company that has sold part of itself to the public via an intial public offering (IPO), meaning they have shareholders that claim part of the company's assests and profits.
  • trades on a  U.S stock exchange and it required to file quarterly earnings reports with the SEC.
