Health Statistics & Government Information
When searching for statistics on the web, be aware that sometimes the most current statistics will be a year or two behind, depending on if the information is made available to the public at this time. Also, look out for bias: statistics can be presented in a way that purposely steers the audience to one side or another.
In addition to the websites listed below, try a Google search for additional statistics you may need. To only search government sites, use the following technique:

This will tell Google you only want to see information from sites that end in .gov.
- CDC FastStatsThe FastStats site provides quick access to statistics on topics of public health importance and is organized alphabetically.
- County Health Rankings & RoadmapsCounty Health Rankings & Roadmaps is a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. Organized by U.S. county, the project measures vital health factors, such as obesity, smoking, unemployment, food insecurity, income, and graduation rates. The website also includes “Roadmaps to Health,” which help health practitioners turn the provided health data into community action.
- Data.gov: HealthExplore datasets, tools, and applications related to health and health care. These resources come from across the Federal Government with the goal of improving the health and lives of all Americans.
- National Center for Health StatisticsStatistics available through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
