Research Tips

How to Search

The two most common types of searches are:

  • Keyword searches to look for a word or words anywhere in a record, similar to a Google search. You can refine your search by using Boolean Operators like AND, OR, AND NOT.
  • Subject searches use a controlled vocabulary which is built into the database or catalog. Your results will usually be more relevant but you need to take the time to come up with your subject search terms.
