The integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) within academia has the potential to enhance learning, research, and problem-solving across a spectrum of disciplines. AI represents a potential asset for both professors and students if we help ensure moral and ethical use within courses.

This document seeks to establish essential guidelines for the responsible and effective adoption of AI in the academic setting at Davenport University.

• Academic disciplines, and even specific courses within unique disciplines, will leverage AI's capabilities in different ways.
• Specific learning objectives within a given course will govern how the tools can be used.

This document recognizes the necessity of flexibility, acknowledging that AI's applications will differ across fields. The objective is not uniformity but, rather, the cultivation of thoughtful, ethical, and discipline-specific use.

This document is currently owned by the Artificial Intelligence Taskforce.  We are seeking adoption and guidance from the Deans Council for long-term document ownership, revision policies, and distribution.
