How To Decide Which Screen To Display

Chrome & Edge Example:

  • A box will pop up at the top of the browser asking you to select the browser tab, window, or screen you want to share (if you have more than one).

  • Click on the tab, window, or screen to see your choices.  Select what you want to display to highlight it and then click on theSharebutton at the bottom.
    • Entire Screen - when you have more than one screen.  This allows you to display the screen while you jump into different things on that same screen like a Word document, a web page, another program.
    • Window - allows you to display only one program or instance of a browser (though it will show all tabs of the selected browser as you go through them and make them active)
    • Chrome Tab (when in Chrome) - shows all the tabs on the Chrome browser, even if they have been pulled out into a separate instance.  After you select one, you can switch around between tabs on that instance of the Chrome browser.  To find the active tab on browsers that are not Chrome, go to the Window selection.
    • Edge Tab (when in Edge) - see above description, except it shows all the tabs on the Edge browser to choose from.

When you are done recording, click the red button again to stop the recording, and then click on the blue Stop Sharing button at the top of the screen to stop sharing your screen.

Firefox Example:

Firefox - Selection of source to display

  • All the choices are in one drop-down menu.
  • Again, only the active tab of the browsers are there as a choice, though once chosen, you can go between tabs and they will display the tab you are on in that browser.
  • Notice where the red arrow is pointing that Firefox doesn't do a good job of identifying the Edge browser, but it is there to select as a blank and will usually display it when selected.
  • Select what you want to share from the dropdown menu and then the Allow button.

Allow Button

When you are done recording, click the red button again to stop the recording, and then click on the blue Stop Sharing button at the top of the screen to stop sharing your screen.

Saving Your Recording

Kaltura - After Recording Alternatives

After you stop recording, it will ask if you want to:

  • Record Again: Re-do your recording.
  • Two options for saving and storing.  You can upload from both into assignments or discussion board posts:
    • Download a Copy: will download the recording to your computer's download folder.
      • Select Download a Copy to have a backup copy outside of Blackboard/Kaltura.
    • Use This: It will open a screen for you to name it (It has a default name you can change) and will save the recording to your My Media page within Kaltura.  You can add a description, keep it private or make it public at this point.  (You can also make it public later.)  Your video is only available in Kaltura My Media and you can use Kaltura's editing features to clip things out.
