Jim Gort, Ph.D.
Associate Department Chair of Management, Davenport University
With expertise in business administration, management, and leadership, Dr. Jim Gort serves as the Associate Department Chair of Management and Business Capstones for the Donald W. Maine College of Business. In this role, he is engaged as an assistant professor and administrator for graduate and undergraduate management and business capstone courses. He also serves as a faculty advisor for the Sigma, Beta, Delta honor society and as a study abroad program director.
After over 20 years in various management positions, Dr. Gort joined Davenport University in 2007. Some of the industry jobs held included information systems manager, billing and group services manager, information technology healthcare consultant, and vice president of client and information services. He has also provided corporate training in areas including change management, creativity and innovation, problem-solving and decision making, motivation, and team performance.
Dr. Gort is a Certified Data Processor (CDP) from the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals and a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) from the Wharton School of Business. He teaches a wide range of business and management courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Dr. Gort has participated in the accreditation process for the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and has led the Davenport University Program Review process for the Management degree.
Dr. Gort has presented at numerous educational conferences including topics such as Leadership: How to Develop Transformational Leaders, Building Professional Relationships with Students, Dealing with Difficult Students, Blended Learning, Online Engagement made Easy, Active Learning, and E is for Edutainment. He also participates in Junior Achievement and volunteers at West Michigan events such as Grand Rapids Festival and Michigan Adventure Racing.
