Summarizing

Summarizing is the same technique as paraphrasing, except that, when summarizing, you are often condensing a large work, or a portion of a large work, in order to present the main ideas in a concise manner. Again, because you are presenting the work of another person or persons in a summary, this information needs to be cited at all times

Tips

  • Use quotation marks around any words or phrases taken directly from the original work.
  • Make sure that the author's original meaning remains intact (Do not add interpretation or analysis within the summary).
  • Include in-text citations to ensure proper attribution to the original author.
